Our private tours and day trips of Cortona and
Montepulciano include private English-speaking "driving
guides",
private transportation to and from your hotel or apartment, taxes,

Your private tour will take you to the extreme
southern part of Tuscany, between the province of Arezzo and Siena,
where you will pass through the Arno valley to reach the charming
village of Montepulciano. It is one of the highest of Tuscan hill
towns, built along a narrow tufa ridge, with a long main street and
alleys that drop away to the walls. It's a stunning town, full of
vistas, odd squares and corners and endowed with dozens of
Renaissance palaces and churches. It is also well known for its
wine.
Your English-speaking guide will take you on a private guided tour
of Montepulciano, starting from the lower level where you will visit
the beautiful church of San Biagio, one of the most harmonious
Renaissance creations in Italy. From here you will continue your
tour to the main square and the 17th century cathedral.
At the end of your tour of Montepulciano, you will visit the very
famous Cantina del Redi, certainly the most important producer of
the great red wine Nobile di Montepulciano. You will have the chance
to enter into the beautiful Renaissance Ricci Palace, inside which
the gorgeous wine cellar is carved. It is said that the wine-cellar,
raised on an earlier medieval structure, was built according to the
1337 town of Montepulciano specifications: Whoever posseses a
grotto, or a basement below the rock has to build a span with bricks
and lime… Should he want to build a wine-cellar, this will have to
be 20 feet long, 16 wide… always with the aforesaid span…. This is
the way it appears today: a true wine temple, where in sacred
silence, and respect for the production codes of great red wines.
You will have wine tasting at the end of the tour in Montepulciano
and you will also have opportunity to purchase some wine at their
shop. You will also have some free time for lunch and to explore.
Your private tour will then take you to your next destination,
Cortona, a lovely town located at the border between Tuscany and
Umbria. Cortona is built on top of a mountain dominating all the
valley below. Cortona is a very well preserved Etruscan city; it
belonged to the dodecapolis-12 main Etruscan cities. Today, it's
still possible to see the original city walls dating back to 5th
century B.C. A very interesting Etruscan Academy displaying bronzes,
vases and many objects from the Etruscan time may also be visited.
You will have free time in the city center to explore the main
attractions including the cathedral, the Etruscan academy museum,
the civic museum, the church of St Francis and sanctuary of Santa
Margherita and go to the shopping area of Via Nazionale.
